CD Projekt Red has announced that development work on The Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris, has accelerated significantly. In the company’s latest financial report, CDPR stated that almost half of its total staff is currently working on “Polaris”.
Witcher 4 announcement from CD Projekt Red
The Polish game developer shared its financial report the other day. Accordingly, the company generated 443 million Polish Zloty in the third quarter of 2023. This corresponds to 112 million 487 thousand 933 dollars.
The report also included information about the status of new games. The company’s most notable new game seems to be Witcher 4, codenamed Polaris. In July, the Polaris team consisted of 260 developers, representing more than a third of CDPR. However, this figure has increased to 330 people in the last quarter.
With the release of Cyberpunk 2077’s expansion pack Phantom Liberty in October, resources are being directed towards the new Witcher game. CD Projek Red CEO Adam Kiciński also expects the Polaris team to grow to 400 people by 2024.
Announced earlier this year, Polaris is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. However, CDPR said that it will take a significant amount of time to get used to the new engine, which is why Witcher 4 will be released at least three years later.
With almost half of CDPR’s resources allocated, The Witcher 4 is likely to be released in 2025 at the earliest. However, it should be noted that it will be the company’s most ambitious project so far with Unreal Engine 5 support.
